FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (Pet Owners)

Q: How do I schedule a surgery for my pet?

A: H&M VetSurg acts as a mobile specialist service. In most cases, your primary veterinarian will contact us to schedule the surgery directly at their clinic. If your vet does not host mobile surgery, you can book a consultation at one of our partner hospitals (Ocean Avenue or Urban Pet Hospital) listed in the menu.

Q: Who performs the surgery?

A: All procedures are performed by Dr. Hani Korani, a Board-Certified Small Animal Surgeon (DACVS-SA). This means your pet is receiving expert care from a specialist with advanced training in complex orthopedic and soft tissue procedures.

Q: Where will the surgery take place?

A: We bring the specialist directly to you. Dr. Korani travels to your primary veterinarian’s clinic with all necessary equipment, allowing your pet to have surgery in a familiar, low-stress environment.

Q: What is the recovery process like?

A: We provide detailed discharge instructions specific to your pet’s procedure (such as TPLO or fracture repair). We work closely with your primary veterinarian to manage pain relief and follow-up care to ensure a smooth recovery.

Q: Do you accept pet insurance?

A: Yes. Because the surgery is performed at a veterinary clinic, standard pet insurance policies typically cover our specialist procedures. Please check with your specific provider regarding your coverage limits.

How much will this cost?

“We provide a detailed estimate for our surgical services directly to your veterinarian. They will then provide you with a comprehensive estimate that includes our fee plus their hospital’s costs for things like anesthesia, medications, and any overnight care. All payments will be made directly to your veterinary clinic.”

Will my pet be in pain?

“Pain management is a cornerstone of modern veterinary care. Your pet will receive pain medication before, during, and after surgery. We use a multi-modal approach, combining different types of medication to ensure they are as comfortable as possible during their recovery. You will be sent home with oral pain medications and clear instructions.”

What if there is an emergency after my pet is home?

“Your first point of contact should always be your primary veterinary clinic. They are familiar with your pet and can best guide you. If it is after hours, you should contact the nearest 24/7 veterinary emergency hospital. We work closely with your veterinarian to ensure they have all the information from the surgery to handle any post-operative questions.”
